(I'm Australian, by the way.) Melina Marchetta is really well-known over here, I'm so glad that she is being read internationally, too. 'Finnikin on the Rock' is her first attempt at fantasy, it's worth a read but it's not as great as her young adult fiction books -- which is her strongest genre and her most familiar genre. Her most well-known book is 'Looking for Alibrandi' -- I highly recommend it. It's my favourite of hers. 'Jellicoe Road' is my second-favourite of hers. I'm glad you enjoyed it, MJ. :)Shirleyhttp://weissewiese.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2130094977512293187.post-16100270463879892322011-02-09T15:43:31.466-05:002011-02-09T15:43:31.466-05:00Yes, I'm not a big contemporary fiction person...Yes, I'm not a big contemporary fiction person myself either. If I do pick one up, it's usually because the cover has won me over or, more often, there still seems to be a bit of quirkiness to it.

Marchetta's book looks really interesting. I think I would enjoy reading it :)CloudyKimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17601048610753963689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2130094977512293187.post-59776872883089502132011-02-08T19:25:20.226-05:002011-02-08T19:25:20.226-05:00I have actually just read this book myself. It's not the type of book I would normally pick up for myself, but I've been wanting to expand my literary horizons and there were a lot of good reviews on it. I'm so glad that I did because I think people are really missing out if they don't read this novel. I definitely plan to read more by Miss Marchetta. :)Valeriehttp://mochalove.netnoreply@blogger.com
