Monday 10: Of Short Stories Collections & Anthologies

Monday 10 is a weekly post where I share a list of 10 bookish items based on a theme, subject, idea, fancy, etc.
Every reader and blogger is also invited to participate and make their own list. It doesn't have to have the same theme, it just needs to pertain to books!
If you do make your own list and post it to your blog, share the link in the comments. Or if you prefer write your own list in the comments!
Note: I put 3 asterisks beside the titles I have read and recommend. I have not read all of the books I put in these lists, so be sure to check them all out!

I love short stories and short stories collection. So here are some of my favourites, and some I am dying to read. Most of them are fantasy, fairy tale retelling or mythic fiction inclined.

  1. You simply have to read My Mother She Killed Me and Geektastic as SOON as you can. They are both so wonderful.

  3. Come to think of it, I don't read very many short stories! I love Mrs. Miniver which is a collection of short stories and I have several volumes of short stories by L. M. Montgomery and Bess Streeter Aldrich which I love. But, I love everything those two do so that's hardly a surprise!

  5. "Waifs and Strays"! I love that one! I also picked up Karen Russel's book - I do like it, but sometimes the prose gets thick and it takes me a while to finish each story. I do like her creativity though. I don't think I have a favorite yet, but I did enjoy the sleep camp story.

I love the cover on Angela Carter's book. That's just awesome. I still have to buy my own copy of it.

For suggestions, I just bought "Corsets and Clockwork: 13 Steampunk Romances" and it is awesome! I've only read a few stories from here, but they're so amazing. I've always been interested in steampunk - I'd like to write my own one day, though some of my stories already have some minor elements to them. But I usually shy away from science fiction and like because of mechanics, so this anthology - with the lighter element of romance - was right up my alley. I totally suggest you try it :D

Charles de Lint's short stories were the ones that introduced me to the world of short stories (especially fantasy short story) and i like almost all of his collections.
My favourite in Karen Russells' collection was the last one (and the title one). I do agree it could get heavy sometimes, but oh, it's so beautiful!

I haven't read a lot of steampunk, but i definitely find it fascinating (The Iron Thorn, is a new Ya steampunk novel, and it's on my reading list. It might interest you as well). Thank you for your suggestion! x
