Okay, I admit, I love The Decemberists' music, including their brand of storytelling in their song. But even then, I think I would buy this book, sorely based on the cover. Look at it! It's gorgeous! Plus "American Narnia" sounds intriguing :)

  1. Yes, I love Carson Ellis' art. I actually discovered her art before I knew she was Colin Meloy's wife. She also illustrated the first book of Trenton Stewart Lee's "Mysterious Benedict Society," which is really good, as well as Lemony Snicket's "The Composer is Dead."

  2. OMG. The cover's got me sold. I'm not too familiar with the Decemberists beyond seeing their lovely lyrics played with in illustrations. I really have to listen :O I do love Ellis' art though. "The Mysterious Benedict Society" wouldn't have been the same without her, as well as "The Composer is Dead."

i love it too, that's why I am so excited by this book. while I'm sure the story will be great, it won't really matter, because I know the illustrations will be awesome!

Yes! This is one of those rare occasion where I KNOW I will buy something sorely based on the cover. Well, that's partly true, I do love Colin Meloy songwriting and therefore imagine that the story will be great as well, but it won;t really matter anyway, because look at that cover!
